Aboriginal Engagement Initiatives
Description
Aboriginal peoples are a key resource for mining and mining is a key industry for Aboriginal communities. Through the Aboriginal Engagement Initiatives, MiHR is addressing the issue of making information about career opportunities available to Aboriginal communities.
The Project Delivered:
- Mastering Aboriginal Inclusion in Mining: a series of five training modules designed to nurture and grow the competencies that help businesses become companies of choice for Aboriginal talent. This new and innovative training program is designed to help guide companies in their efforts to make their workplaces more inclusive of Aboriginal people. It was developed jointly by the Aboriginal Human Resource Council (AHRC) and MiHR. Both organizations are committed to creating career opportunities that advance the Aboriginal workforce and help meet Canada's growing labour shortage in the mining industry.
- The Mining Industry Human Resources Guide for Aboriginal Communities: provides students, teachers, career counsellors, and civic leaders in Aboriginal communities with detailed information on the dozens of career opportunities available in Canada's mining industry, as well as the training and educational requirements associated with those jobs.
