Worker Certification System
Description
In May 2008, MiHR began researching the requirements to establish a system for certification of workers in the mining industry, based on existing and future National Occupational Standards. Under this project, MiHR established a governance structure and developed policies and procedures. The certification pilots took place at seven mine sites across Canada in 2011 and certification will be available nationally in Fall 2011. Certifying workers in the mining sector will provide them with a recognized, portable credential.
