SHIFT: Changing the face of Canada's mining industry
Description
The SHIFT project will:
- Identify ways in which technology is changing the industry's skills requirements, which may lead to increased accessibility for currently underrepresented sources of labour
- Look at managing intergenerational workforces in an industrial environment and the role of technology in these relationships
- Explore the issues of attraction, retention and advancement from the perspective of underrepresented employees to better understand how well inclusion or diversity strategies are working
- Facilitate the implementation and evaluation of workplace diversity strategies through the development of a network of experts
- Take a deeper look at Aboriginal inclusion in mining and explore best practices in successful negotiation and implementation of employment and education components between Aboriginal communities, educators and industry
- Develop a forum for sharing best practices on strategies to increase Aboriginal enrolment and success rates in education programs
Project Deliverables
- A comprehensive report outlining the impacts of technology and intergenerational workforces
- Research on HR trends and best practices in industry diversification
- A Network of Diversity Champions to develop inclusive education programs and workplaces
- A compilation of best practices on Aboriginal community/industry partnerships
- A forum to share knowledge and strategies to increase Aboriginal success rates in education programs
