SHIFT: Changing the face of Canada's mining industry

Description

The SHIFT project will:

  • Identify ways in which technology is changing the industry's skills requirements, which may lead to increased accessibility for currently underrepresented sources of labour
  • Look at managing intergenerational workforces in an industrial environment and the role of technology in these relationships
  • Explore the issues of attraction, retention and advancement from the perspective of underrepresented employees to better understand how well inclusion or diversity strategies are working
  • Facilitate the implementation and evaluation of workplace diversity strategies through the development of a network of experts
  • Take a deeper look at Aboriginal inclusion in mining and explore best practices in successful negotiation and implementation of employment and education components between Aboriginal communities, educators and industry
  • Develop a forum for sharing best practices on strategies to increase Aboriginal enrolment and success rates in education programs

Project Deliverables

  • A comprehensive report outlining the impacts of technology and intergenerational workforces
  • Research on HR trends and best practices in industry diversification
  • A Network of Diversity Champions to develop inclusive education programs and workplaces
  • A compilation of best practices on Aboriginal community/industry partnerships
  • A forum to share knowledge and strategies to increase Aboriginal success rates in education programs
