Canada's first, nationally certified underground miners, surface miners and minerals processing operators are here.
And you are invited to meet them.
If you are attending the CIM Conference & Exhibition in Montreal, stop by and join MiHR to recognize the achievements of the first group of certified workers through the Canadian Mining Credentials Program (CMCP) on Tuesday, May 24th at 6:30 pm at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, Room 510BD.
Participating mine sites will be sending representatives and certified workers to celebrate this historic event for Canada's mining industry.
The following mine sites took part in the certification pilot program in 2010:
• Cementation Canada Inc, at Totten Mine (Sudbury, ON) and Trout Lake Mine (Flin Flon, MB)
• Rio Tinto, Diavik Diamond Mine (Yellowknife, NWT)
• Teck Coal, Greenhills Operation (Smithers, BC)
• Northgate Minerals Corp., Kemess South Mine (Toodoggone, BC)
• Teck Resources, Highland Valley Copper (Logan Lake, BC)
• Xstrata Zinc, Brunswick Mine (Bathurst, NB)
The Canadian Mining Credentials Program is the cornerstone of the mining industry's efforts to recognize the skills, knowledge and experience of mining workers. The program is founded on a set of mining industry-defined National Occupational Standards and provides both the basis for training accreditation and worker certification.
The worker certification program is the first of its kind for Canada's mining industry. It assesses the skills of mining industry workers and provides these workers with portable credentials based on their experience and skill levels.
Credentials earned through the certification program provide employers with a valuable tool with which to verify the skills of workers coming from different regions of Canada. Equally important, certification enables mining workers to access employment opportunities across the country by providing them with an industry-based portable credential.
Don't miss this opportunity to meet some of Canada's first, nationally certified mining workers and to learn more about the Canadian Mining Credentials Program and how certification can bolster your company's recruitment initiatives and motivate your employees to excel.
Tuesday, May 24th at 6:30 pm at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, Room 510BD at the CIM National Conference & Exhibition. Email certification@mihr.ca for more information.

If you have an opening for a student or new graduate then take advantage of the 'Student on the Job Board' - a free online job board administered by MiHR which allows employers to post mining co-op, apprenticeship and entry-level positions. This is a great resource to target your recruitment efforts, as site members are students, specifically looking for summer employment or their first position in the mining industry.
Currently, 430 students and recent grads from mining related programs are registered members on the site.
Posting your job(s) takes only a few minutes. From there you can wait for students to come to you, or actively view their profiles and resumes to find students who are right for your company. To get started, click on the following link and select Employer Registration: http://www.acareerinmining.ca/en/careers/jobboard.asp.
To further support your recruitment efforts, we will also post any positions that are placed on the 'Student on the Job
Board' to the Mining Students of Canada Facebook page - a page dedicated to connecting mining students from across Canada with career related information and news.
If you have any career related events (ex. career fairs at universities or colleges), additional information you would like to share with students, or questions about these resources, please email courtnayb@mihr.ca.
