What is a Virtual Career Fair?

A Virtual Career Fair is recognized as an innovative communication tool. Virtual fairs are comprised of 3D graphics, audio and video content, and replicate similar environments found at physical fairs, but without the restriction of location. These new tools allow for rapid and efficient contact between employers and candidates who are searching for new challenges. Click here to download the brochure, or visit the website for more information.

Registration closes today- reserve your booth now! Email info@nationalcareerevent.com or phone 1-866-397-1150 ext. 10. Questions? Email Courtnay Hughes, Program Coordinator at MiHR.

MiHR director elected to WIM Canada Board of Directors for 2012

Congratulations to Melanie Sturk, MiHR's Director, Attraction, Retention and Transition, on being elected to the Women in Mining Canada Board of Directors for 2012.

Melanie Sturk, Director of Attraction, Retention & Transition at MiHRAt MiHR, Melanie is responsible for the initiatives that encourage new workers, particularly those from underrepresented groups, to engage in mining careers that support the industry by enhancing workplace diversity. Melanie has managed and directed multiple projects on workplace diversity in mining, such as Mining Essentials: A Work Readiness Training Program for Aboriginal peoples, Ramp-UP: A report on the status of women in mining in Canada (developed in partnership with Women in Mining Canada) and SHIFT: Changing the Face of Canada's Mining Industry.

Melanie is looking forward to her latest role on the WIM Canada Board, where she will assist the non-profit organization in engaging more women in Canada's mining sector, complementing the work she does at MiHR. "I look forward to working with the esteemed members of the WIM Board to shake up misperceptions and increase the percentage of women working at all levels of the Canadian mining sector," says Melanie.

A big THANK YOU to our industry volunteers

As the national human resources council for the mineral exploration and mining industry, MiHR works with many dedicated industry volunteers who participate on numerous committees and in our career outreach programs. We thank all of you for your time and your continued support. Primary-Women-Geologist-Underground-HoldingRock_LR.jpg

Through MiHR's Explore for More career outreach initiative, we have developed two programs to increase the attraction, retention and transition of tomorrow's workforce: the Virtual MineMentor Program and the Speakers Bureau. The Virtual MineMentor Program pairs enthusiastic industry volunteers with post-secondary students or career seekers who are considering a career in mining to provide important networks in the sector, while the Speakers Bureau is a database of volunteers who participate in speaking engagements in classrooms, at universities, career fairs, or community events to promote the mining industry as an industry of choice and act as ambassadors on behalf of mining in Canada.

MiHR would like to recognize the efforts of these volunteer Virtual Mentors and Speakers for making these programs a success and for your continued contribution to career awareness and outreach.

Since a picture says a thousand words, for the December/January issue of CIM Magazine, we had a special ad designed with our Virtual MineMentor and Speakers Bureau volunteers in mind (see page 10 in the preview or view the pdf). Can you spot your name? Have fun!

BHPB_master_rgb_2.jpgWe'd also like to extend a special thank you to BHP Billiton, official sponsor of the Virtual MineMentor Program for the second consecutive year. Visit www.acareerinmining.ca or email Courtnay Hughes, Program Coordinator, to learn more about becoming a Speaker or Virtual MineMentor.
