Mining Immigration Reference Guide - Helping Employers Navigate the Canadian Immigration System
Many industry employers and suppliers have faced skills shortages and either contemplated or embarked on the process of recruiting foreign workers. However, industry has often described the process as overwhelming and in some cases prohibitive.
In response to this MiHR has developed a free guide to help employers better understand the process of foreign worker recruitment, immigration and settlement, and to assist employers in navigating and managing the process.
Rarely a quick fix to a labour shortage, recruiting foreign workers requires foresight, planning and at times the services of third parties such as recruiters operating in source countries, training organizations and immigration practitioners who are authorized by Citizenship & Immigration Canada.
The guide summarizes the many options and steps available, background information regarding government requirements, examples of industry best practices, tips from employers who have been through the process, and a comprehensive list of resources, including third party organizations that may prove helpful during the process.
The guide can be downloaded here.
MiHR gratefully acknowledges the support and valuable contribution of the Mining Attraction, Recruitment & Retention Strategy (MARS) Steering Committee to this guide:

MiHR Publication Spotlight: Labour Market Information for the Mining Industry
MiHR is actively engaged in acquiring and analyzing labour market information (LMI), and began developing the Mining Industry Workforce Information Network (MIWIN) in 2007. Accurate LMI and forecasting are essential for enabling the mining industry to proactively plan and manage the industry's workforce.
The main objective of MIWIN is to forecast future hiring requirements in the mining industry on an occupation, region and commodity-specific basis. To date, MiHR has conducted forecasts for the mining sectors of British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Ontario, all freely available at www.mihr.ca/en/publications.
