Employees
As a mining industry employee or potential employee, you know that today's mining workers integrate sophisticated equipment and leading-edge technology in every aspect of mining operations.
Given the high-tech nature of jobs in the mining sector, the need has never been greater for standardizing skills, developing a system for recognizing skills, and getting the message out about career opportunities for skilled workers.
We're working actively with our partners to address issues that will directly benefit you:
- Occupational Standards
Occupational Standards will bring consistency to the way that your skills, knowledge, and experience are assessed.
What's in it for you? This will give you the flexibility to pursue mining employment opportunities anywhere in Canada—dramatically improving your career prospects and accelerating your career progress. - Worker Certification Program
MiHR has established a system for certification of employees in the mining industry that will enable you to earn credentials giving you nationwide industry recognition for your skills and experience. It will be available in Fall 2011 for the occupations of Underground Miner, Surface Miner and Minerals Processing Operator.
What's in it for you? Your credentials will be portable and will clearly tell employers that you have the skills needed for your job at a level that meets or exceeds the industry standard.
Attraction, Recruitment & Retention Strategy
One of our major initiatives focuses on attracting, recruiting, and retaining a skilled workforce, as well as increasing the participation of under-represented groups in the mining workforce. Through the re-branding of Explore for More, as well as the establishment of a Virtual MineMentor Program and Student-on-the-Job Board, MiHR is well on the way to promoting careers in mining to a much wider audience.
What's in it for you? These programs increase your own career opportunities. Check them out!
