Aboriginal Groups
Aboriginal peoples are a key resource for mining and mining is a key industry for Aboriginal communities, many of which are located close to mining operations. In fact, approximately 1,200 Aboriginal communities are located within 200 kilometres of operating mines and exploration properties across Canada.
Through the Aboriginal Engagement Initiatives project, MiHR is addressing the following issues:
- Making information about mining career possibilities, skills requirements, and training resources available to students, educators, and civic leaders in Aboriginal communities.
- Assisting mining organizations in their efforts to make their workplaces more inclusive of Aboriginal peoples.
